What you'll experience
Ride a 4×4 jeep across Batur’s black lava and watch the sun rise over the lake and Mount Agung. No hiking, at your own pace, with a local driver.
Mount Batur (1,717 m) is an active volcano in Kintamani, in north-east Bali. Its huge caldera holds Lake Batur, the largest lake on the island. On this tour there is no hiking: a 4×4 jeep with a local driver takes you along the black lava tracks to a sunrise viewpoint.
As the sun comes up, the sky turns orange behind Mount Abang and Mount Agung, Bali’s sacred volcano, and the mist slowly lifts from the lake. Afterwards we explore the black lava fields, stopping for photos at dramatic spots.
It is a good way to see a volcano at sunrise without the climb and without leaving Bali, and it suits almost all ages.

Itinerary
- Hotel pick-up before dawn and drive to Kintamani in a private air-conditioned car.
- 4×4 jeep ride across the black lava to the sunrise viewpoint.

- Black lava fields: photo stops and your driver’s stories about the volcano.

Do I need to hike?
No. The jeep takes you to the viewpoint; you only walk a few metres at the photo stops.
What time do we leave?
Before dawn, so we arrive before sunrise. We confirm the exact time for your hotel area.
Can I combine it with other visits?

- It is chilly on the mountain at dawn: bring a jacket or sweater.
- Wear comfortable closed shoes.
- The track is bumpy: not recommended during pregnancy or for travellers with back problems.
