BALI. 08. TRADITIONAL / CLASIC DANCE / Clasik and Romantik Dance
(TOTAL DURATION: 3 HOURS)

Music, dance and drama are all closely related in Bali, in fact drama and dance are synonymous. The most important thing about Balinese dances, however, is that they're fun and accessible. Balinese dances are not hard to find; there are dances virtually every night at all the tourist centres. Balinese music is based around an instrument known as the gamelan. The gamelan is such a central part of Balinese music that the whole 'orchestra' is also referred to as a gamelan. Gamelan music is almost completely percussion. Though it sounds strange at first with its noisy, jangly percussion it's exciting and enjoyable.

A. Kechak

Ketcak Dance monke, angle & Fire dance

Probably the best known of the many Balinese dances, the Kechak is also unusual in that it does not have a gamelan accompaniment. Instead the background is provided by a chanting 'choir' of men who provide the 'chak-a-chak-a-chak' noise. Basically, it tells the same story of Rama and Sita as told in the Kechak, followed by The Sanghyang trance dance originally developed to drive out evil spirits from a village. The Sanghyang Dedari dance is performed by two young girls who dance a dream-like version of the Legong but with their eyes closed. The Sanghyang Jaran, a boy dances around and through a fire, seating on fire, riding a coconut palm hobby-horse in trance. In both dances, a priest is always on hand with Holy water to help bring the dancers out of trance-state at the end of the performance. This show we have everyday at 18.30, the dance during one hour only.

B. Barong & Rangda

Balinese costume dance

It's the most popular dance in Bali. A straightforward battle between good, the barong, and bad, the rangda. The barong is a strange creature, half shaggy dog, half lion, propelled by two men like a circus clown-horse. The widow-witch rangda is bad though and certainly not the sort of thing you'd like to meet on a midnight stroll through the rice paddies.
Kris Dance: In the Barong play, Bali's mythical guardian, Barong, battles Rangda, the demon - Queen. Barong's supporters are a group of Balinese men with the natural ability to enter a trance state. They are armed with a Kris (traditional sword). Rangda insults Barong and taunts the men- enraged and in a trance they attack her! But her powers are so strong that they are knocked out. When they come to they are so distressed by their failure that they try to impale themselves on their kris. But their trance state amazingly protects them from injury. This show we have every day at 09.30, take one hour only.

BALI. 12. C. Bali Elephants Safari Park.

Visit to the Elephant Safari Park is a must for any visitor to Bali. Get up close and personal with these incredible animals in a beautiful tropical park setting. Elephants can be seen immersing themselves in the park lake, in between riding, painting or other activities. Hand feed them, touch them, take photos with them, then learn more about the elephants ancestry and diversity at the Park's historical and graphic displays. The Park's exclusive museum contains the only full size mammoth skeleton replica in the Southern Hemisphere. A large gift shop has a massive selection of everything you can imagine regarding elephants and a 200-seat restaurant over looking the lake serves a la carte or buffet meals and has a full bar service.

ELEPHANT SAFARI RIDE TOUR
The experience of sitting high a top an elephant in a teak wood chair, through the cool
Jungle of Taro is an experience you'll never forget. The Elephant Safari Park offers a new concept in Ecotourism. Here you can enjoy the exciting adventure of Elephant Trekking while you are also helping to save the endangered Indonesian Elephant (one of world's rarest elephants). Currently there are less than 1,100 Indonesian Elephants left in the wild and their numbers a rapidly decreasing. At the Elephant Safari Park we are assisting, through proceeds from admissions, with the relocation of wild elephants to special reserves setup by the Indonesian Government to assist with breeding programs to help build up the depleting numbers. e-mail a Danny Sridana for today price!.

YOGYAKARTA,
OVERLAND TOURS

Yogyakarta or simply Yogya, is one of the foremost cultural centers of Java. Located at the foot of the active Merapi volcano, Yogyakarta was in the 16th and 17th centuries the seat of the mighty Javanese empire of Mataram., from which present day Yogyakarta has inherited the best of traditions. The city itself has a special charm which seldom fails to captivate the visitor.

This province is one of the most densely populated areas of Indonesia. The city came into being in 1755, after the division of Mataram into the Sultanates of Yogyakarta and Surakarta (Solo). Gamelan, classical and contemporary Javanese dances, the wayang kulit leather puppet theater and other expressions of traditional art will keep the visitor spellbound. Local craftsmen excel in the arts of batiks, silver and leather work. >> More info...

Sunset Ketchak at Uluwatu Temple

This is a good tourism product:
sunset + traditional dance + old temple.

All give an unique blend of performance. In peak season, the performance is everyday, starting from 17.00 pm until 19.00 pm. However, in low tourist session, the performance is only once a week, mostly at every Friday. To get in, you have to enter the Uluwatu temple complex, To see the performance, on our packages Uluwatu sunset tours included Ketcak show and dinner in in Jimbaran (fress sea food)

It's a classic love story of Rama and Shinta. You can find similar dance performance at Ubud. Although the visualization of burning Hanuman is more creative here in Uluwatu. >> More info...
